ASIS International offers three board certifications for experienced professionals: the CPP, the PSP, and the PCI. They are not levels of the same ladder — each one validates a different specialty. Choosing the right one depends on the work you do today and the role you want next.

CPP — Certified Protection Professional

Scope: all of security management across seven domains. Exam: 225 questions in four hours. Typical roles: Security Manager, Director of Security, Chief Security Officer.

PSP — Physical Security Professional

Scope: physical security assessment, system design and integration, and implementation. Exam: 140 questions in two and a half hours. Typical roles: Physical Security Manager, Security Systems Designer, Security Consultant.

PCI — Professional Certified Investigator

Scope: case management, evidence collection, investigative techniques, and case presentation. Exam: 140 questions in two and a half hours. Typical roles: Corporate Investigator, Fraud Investigator, Investigations Manager.

Can you hold more than one?

Yes. Many security leaders earn the PSP or PCI first to prove their specialty, then add the CPP as they move into broader leadership. The knowledge overlaps, so each additional certification is faster to prepare for.
